Disney Updates February 2018!

There are so many changes and magic happening in the world of Disney that I know I won’t come close to covering, so I picked out a few updates on WDW, Disneyland, and Disney Channel.

disney

Walt Disney World:

  • Toy Story Land is opening up this summer so Disney’s Hollywood studios will soon be rolling out the red carpet before we know it! I’m excited to ride the Alien Swirling Saucers where I hope I get chosen by the claw, and I am really excited to ride Slinky Dog Dash because who doesn’t love Slinky? I also can not wait to see how awesome Andy’s backyard will look and of course just hanging out.
  • Hollywood Studios is keeping its name!! HOORAY! Since, the park is about movies, music, TV, and theater Disney has decided to keep its name because it just makes sense.
  • The exclusive Club 33 will be in all WDW parks. The Magic Kingdom will most likely be located in Adventureland  Veranda. Even though it is still under construction, the membership invites have begun! Membership price is $25,000 for joining fee and annual dues of $15,000. Members will be able to access all four Club 33 lounges at WDW but will NOT automatically be a member of Club 33 in Disneyland. Although Disney has not released an opening date, its speculated to open this year.

Disneyland:

  • If you have recently visited the park, you have heard that Rancho Del Zocalo had stopped serving breakfast February 6, to make room for Red Rose Taverne’s breakfast which will be served from park opening to 11am that started February 7!
  • There is a single rider line for Space Mountain, which is crazy and amazing! Can I also just say FINALLY!!! I am very excited about this update.
  • Starting February 16, Black Panther will be joining the Marvel Meet and Greet characters in DCA’s Hollywood Backlot.
  • Today February 8 in 2001, marks the opening day of Dinsey California Adventure. Its crazy to think how much DCA has changed since opening day in 2001!

Disney Channel:

  • Premiering on DC in 2002 with 87 episodes and two animated movies, this typical high school redhead will have a Live action movie! Now it is still in early production, so there is no cast yet, BUT the series creator Mark McCorkle, Robert Schooley, and Josh Cagan will write the scripts and act as executive producer while Adam B Stein and Zach Lipovsky will co-produce. I am hoping for a cameo by Christie Carlson-Romano and of course, Will Friedle who voiced Kim and Ron.
  • ZOMBIES the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie will premier February 16, 2018. ITs starring Meg Donnelly, Milo Manhel, Emilia McCarthy and directed by Paul Hoen who also directed other DCOM’s and Disney Series such as Eddies Million Dollar Cook-Off, Jump In, Let It Shine, Even Stevens, Andi Mack, Jonas and so many more. So I’m sure ZOMBIES will be an amazing contribution to the DCOM family.

New Disney Park:

A brand new park rumored to open in the next four years to Tokyo Disney Resort. According to a Japanese Newspaper plans are being finalized for a space and flight-inspired theme park called Tokyo DisneySky. It sounds pretty interesting and I would love to see the concept art for this DisneySky.

I think the top things I am most excited for to see is Toy Story Land in WDW, and of course the Live-action Kim Possible! I grew up watching Kim Possible and it’s really quite exciting to see it come back after about 16 years.

Kingdom Keepers Series: Ridley Pearson

I love reading, I love how it takes me to an entirely different world and lets my imagination run free. The only bad thing is I am very picky about books, and I love reading series because I kind of get obsessed with reading and I will stay up all night reading, it will consume my life.

So, my last trip to Disneyland I went to Off the Page (the store in the Animation Academy building) and of course looking around when I came across a book that had Maleficent on it (favorite villain), I immediately picked it up and read the back instantly deciding I NEEDED this book. David (a cast member) came over and started talking to me about the book letting me know that the book I picked up is one of the newer books and I should start at the beginning of the series for it all to make more sense.

The series starts off with a group of middle school kids in Walt Disney World trying to defeat the Overtakers. The story follows the kids around as they grow up and go all throughout the parks (WDW and Disneyland) and of course the cruise line. David told me that Ridley Pearson before writing the books, got an exclusive tour of the parks so he could use as many details (on stage and backstage) where the kids are in the story.

There are (as of right now) eleven books in the series. In the Kingdom Keepers series, there are; Disney After Dark, Disney At Dawn, Disney in Shadow, Power Play, Shell Game, Dark Passage, and The Insider.

In the Kingdom Keepers: The Return series there are; Legacy of Secrets, Disney at Last Legacy of Secrets and The Syndrome. Now, David said this is around the time Pearson should be announcing a new book, and he thinks Pearson is going to have the kids in the international parks. Honestly, that would be amazing to me because I have only been to Disneyland Paris and reading about the other parks my imagination would seriously go wild. Will you join me in reading The Kingdom Keepers series?

25 Days of Christmas 2017: Day 14

For $52.4 billion in stock, the Walt Dinsey Company acquire Twenty-First Century Fox. They announced that they have entered into an agreement for Disney to acquire 21st Century Fox, including the film and television studios, along with cable and international TV businesses. 21st Century Fox will separate from the Fox Broadcasting network and stations: Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, FS1, FS2 and Big Ten Network into newly listed companies that will be spun off to its shareholders. Popular entertainment joining the Disney family include Avatar, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, Anastasia, Modern Family, The Simpsons, and so much more.

As cool as I think this is, I do have my worries, BUT I think that is completely normal. I think this is a great step for Disney, now everyone who says Anastasia is a Disney Princess isn’t completely wrong. Although, for me, she is still an unofficial official Disney Princess. I’m curious to see if Disney will have a coronation ceremony for her or if she will stay an unofficial Disney princess? There are so many arguments going on in my head, what are your thoughts on everything going on? Let me know in the comments below!

Aladdin vs Aladdin!

As you may know, I absolutely LOVE Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular that performed at the Hyperion Theater in Disney California Adventure. It was my ALL TIME FAVORITE show to watch and I was always in that theater. I felt like I was in actually in the movie and the Genie was PERFECTION he definitely stole the show hands down. He was everyone’s favorite with all his up to date jokes.

Aladdin on Broadway made me a little nervous because was it going to live up to my DCA’s version? Well, I had to find out and YES it was just as amazing but in its own way. I feel like the Genie still had a major part in the show (obviously) but in a different way than DCA’s. They were both completely different but similar in the same ways…if that makes sense.

For me, DCA’s version focused more on the comedic side of the movie, whereas the Broadway version focused more on the love story. Essentially the same storyline but told from different views. Genie was my favorite at DCA whereas I absolutely fell in love with Aladdin’s friends Babkak, Omar and Kassim. They, for me, were the most comedic for me. With a new show comes new music, and I immediately bought the soundtrack and still play all the time. My favorite songs that I listen to on replay non-stop is High Adventure and A Million Miles Away.

One thing I really miss was definitely the “animals” running around the audience, they did this for Prince Ali and A Whole New World in the DCA version and I loved it. I didn’t understand why they didn’t incorporate that in the Broadway version because they had animal puppets in the audiences for Lion King.

I know that they are two completely different shows and honestly they did an AMAZING job on both them. I would really love it if they came out on iTunes with a DCA version and Broadway version because I would buy it just like I bought Newsies!

25 Days of Christmas!

I know its Nov. 1 and I’m already thinking of Christmas. In my defense, it’s my all-time favorite holiday! Plus all my favorite Christmas movies are on freeform (aka ABC Family) announced they were making some changes. So let’s get talking!

Freeform will not be the only channel hosting ’25 days of Christmas this year. Due to the popularity of the annual program, freeform, ABC, Disney Channel, Disney XD’ and Disney Jr. Freeform will air some holiday faves like Elf, The Santa Clause along with several original Christmas movies and a few Disney specials like The Wonderful World of Disney: Holiday Magic, a holiday special that shows viewers how Disney Destinations bring the holiday to life across the resorts!

ABC will debut a new reality competition show that will, of course, be tied to the holidays like The Great Christmas Light FIght where families will compete to transform their homes into the ultimate winter wonderland and of course the Great American Baking show. Dinsey XD, Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Radio Disney will air holiday episodes of their popular shows. Disney Channel will celebrate with a holiday telecast from the Disney Parks and will debut a new Lion King film, titled The Lion Guard: Timon and Pumbas Christmas which means things will get messy with those two.

Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, is when the countdown to 25 Days of Christmas begins! You can find the schedule here!

Disney Did You Know?!

Did you know,

1

Before Walt Disney chose Anaheim, he almost built his park on a 7 acre studio lot in burbank where the park was almost named “Walt Disney’s America.” Disneyland was built on a 160 acre orange grove, displacing  more than 12,000 orange trees. Jack and Bill Evans, the landscapers made up for it though by planting more than 40 species of flowers and 700 exotic trees that grow along the Jungle Cruise alone. The iconic Mickey-head topiary contains 10,000 flowers which are replanted 6 times a year!
