The American foxhound was officially recognized by the AKC in 1886. They are one of Americas native breeds, its also one of our rarest. The Foxhound  in this country is used for four purposes: Competitive, Field Trial, Fox Hunting and pack hounds.

These hounds were the basis of several strains of American Hounds. Hound from France and England were brought in to further develop the breed in the middle to the late 1700’s.
